I have to admit that I’ve never been a sucker for the matched luggage side of the Euro sports car world. Its not that I don’t get the appeal of quality travel gear, I just don’t see the need for it to match my car stitch for stitch. Of course I’ve never been in a position to buy one of these sets anyway, so my opinion is sort of moot anyway. All that being said, the upcoming Porsche Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 has me feeling sort of dirty.
With only 1000 units being produced, this sexy mommy wagon is easily distinguished from the neighbor’s Cayenne by the side and hood stripes. Accenting that look are the special 21 inch wheels and some cool badges. Inside, things are spiced up with stunning black leather with red stitching and some tasteful carbon fiber accents.
In case the interior isn’t special enough for you, a full set of Porsche Design luggage comes as part of the package. Natch, a Porsche Design timekeeper for your wrist is also included. Try not to drool on it.
Of course a Porsche has to have some go to back up the visual and the Cayenne GTS PDE3 doesn’t disappoint here either. The 405 horsepower V8 breathes through a sport exhaust that will likely frighten the neighbor’s chihuahua. More than just a rumble mind you, as this Cayenne reaches 60 from rest in only 6.5 seconds and tops out at a whopping 251 kmh. Certainly not your average SUV!
Oh yes, you potential Canadian buyers had better hurry. Only 12 of these machines are coming to Canada.

MISSISSAUGA – March 25, 2009 — Porsche is expanding its successful range of SUVs with an exclusive, limited-edition model. The company will build just 1,000 numbered units of the new Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3.
The Cayenne GTS is the third Porsche Design edition, following in the footsteps of the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 and the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2. The design aesthetic of the Porsche Design Studio, based in Zell am See, Austria, one of the world leaders in industrial and product design, is evident in the car’s sporting and purist look. Lava Grey Metallic paint is set off with stripes on the side and hood which highlight this Cayenne’s exclusive origins. 21-inch SportPlus wheels, finished in the same colour, are standard.
The elegant look is rounded off by standard bi-xenon headlights as well as dark privacy glazing aft of the B-pillar and, at the rear, the “Cayenne GTS“ model designation in black with a red “S.” An extended roof spoiler with double-wing profile is available at no extra cost.
Inside, black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitching on the instrument panel and door sills further enhances the appeal of the Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3. The padded three-spoke multifunction steering wheel raises the car’s unique sporting character to an even higher level.
Electrically-adjustable sports seats with a comfort memory package and large side bolsters offer the driver and front passenger optimum seating comfort and support. The front headrests sport an embossed Porsche logo, while the centre sections of the front and rear seats are finished in alcantara. The same non-slip material graces parts of the centre console and door linings, as well as the inner sections of the door handles and the complete roof lining. Carbon-fibre trim on the dashboard references Porsche’s motorsport heritage, while the “Porsche Design Edition 3” designation marks the rev counter, the front door trim and a placard on the glove compartment embossed with the car’s unique serial number.
The unique aural experience typical of a Porsche comes, first, at the touch of a button from the standard sports exhaust system and also from a standard Bose 5.1 Surround Sound system with 14 loudspeakers and an overall output of 410 W.
With its 4.8-litre, 405-hp V8 and six-speed Tiptronic S transmission, the Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 251 km/h.
By tradition, every Porsche Design Edition comes standard with unique Porsche Design accessories. In the case of the Porsche Design Edition 3, the Porsche Design Studio has created a unique Type P’6612 automatic wristwatch with a 42-mm titanium case and metal bracelet with a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating. This special coating, used in racing engines, gives the watch its characteristic colour, while the design of its face references the striking design features from the interior of the Cayenne.
Additionally, this very special vehicle comes with a unique four-piece luggage set, including three trolley cases of varying sizes as well as a functional briefcase, bearing the Porsche Design Edition 3 label. With the exception of the largest 62-litre trolley case, all items may be used on aircraft as carry-on travel baggage.
Just 12 Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 models will arrive in Canada, starting at the end of May. The Canadian price, including the chronograph and the complete set of luggage, is $109,300.
