Porsche has introduced the “entry level” Panamera family with the V-6 powered Panamera and Panamera 4. The Direct Injected  V-6 displaces 3.6L and is rated at 300hp. The only transmission available is Porsche’s 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Standard equipment includes an electric moonroof, power liftgate, bi-xenon headlamps and navigation. The rear wheel drive Panamera starts at $74,400USD, while the all-wheel drive Panamera 4 starts at $78,900, or more than $15,000 less than the 400hp Panamera S. The V-6 Panameras go on sale in June.
The pricing of the Panamera puts the car near some interesting company, namely the BMW 550i Gran Turismo that The Garage recently reviewed. It would be reasonable to think it would be unfair to compare a normally aspirated V-6 Porsche to the BMW’s twin-turbo V-8, especially since the BMW has a 100hp advantage. Think again. The V-6 Panamera weighs 1,015lbs LESS than the Gran Turismo. No typo, do not adjust your screen-that’s a half-ton less weight to haul. Game on!
