Pontiac Sobers Up, Cancels G8 ST

The auto blogging community have been buzzing that the Pontiac G8 ST, a reincarnation of the old Chevy El Camino, has been cancelled before it even went into production. The ST had been on the auto show circuit, and was a totally green-lighted project.

In fact, it seemed there was never a question about the G8 ST actually hitting the showroom floor. Rumors abounded for just how long Pontiac would sell it, but since the car was so far along in its development, you would be fair to say it is a shock that Pontiac would pull the plug this late in the game. I should add you would be fair to have made that assumption under normal situations. We’re not in a normal situation.

Taxpayer money is now supporting GM, so in addition to its shareholders, GM answers to the White House now. Barack Obama is not going to want to hear about a new, V-8 powered, tire shredding car-based pick-up that sells for over $30,000. Nope. But I am sure President Obama will be all smiles about the upcoming Chevy Aveo based Pontiac G3!
