Team press release
P.J. Groenke takes first place in Round 5 and 6
TORONTO, ON – June 28, 2011 – The Pfaff Castrol Motorsport team is thrilled to announce two first-place wins in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship. P.J. Groenke raced the VW GTI — sponsored by Pfaff, Castrol and Verax.ca — to victory in Round Five and Round Six of the Touring Car Series this past weekend.
“We are thrilled about Groenke’s race results and are confident the team can continue this momentum throughout the season,†said Christopher Pfaff, president and CEO of Pfaff Automotive Partners.
In Round Five, Groenke made a remarkable jump from 10th position to first place during a hectic start to the race. While several cars were damaged in both series, Groenke showcased his driving skills by avoiding a crash to move ahead of his competition and maintain the lead to the finish line.
In Round Six, Groenke held on to a first-place position from start to finish moving him up significantly on the series’ points ladder. After Round Four, Groenke was in fifth position of the Touring Class standings and has now moved into third position.
“This was a perfect race weekend! The Pfaff, Castrol VW GTI, presented by Verax.ca performed perfectly thanks to my crew chief Sean Asselin,†said Groenke. “I am very proud to race and work for Pfaff and look forward to the rest of the season.â€Â
The Championship’s Round Seven and Eight will take place on July 8 to 10 at Honda Indy Toronto. To get the complete results of Round Five and Round Six, visit www.touringcar.ca.
