Canada and the United States may be next door neighbours, but there are still some subtle cultural differences. We have Tim Hortons, they have Krispy Kreme. Our light beer is stronger than your regular beer. Your athletes get all lubed up, hop in the Escalade and beat up their baby mamma. Our athletes get all lubed up and go crazy on whatever is nearby that can go faster than it was designed to go. Ski-Doo, jetski, golf cart, it doesn’t matter.
Enter Paul Tracy, the consumate Canadian good old boy. What better to do while half in the bag, but tear up the golf course in a golf cart ATV! Even better, let’s try to get some air off a sand trap. Yeah baby, make that sucker fly! Like so many other Canadian weekend warriors, PT flipped the buggy which then landed on him causing a broken shoulder blade.
“Sorry to say it was self-inflicted. I was at a party and had had a little too much to drink, and we thought it was a good idea to go out on a golf cart and try and jump sand dunes with it,”
“We were wrong. It wasn’t a good idea. Jumped a sand trap and ended up with the cart on top of me. Like I say, it sounded like a good idea at the time, but it didn’t pan out that way.”
It looks like Tracy will miss the Champ Car season finale in Mexico City thanks to his injury. While the Champ Car officials and the sponsors likely see this in a negative light, the reality is that once again they should thank PT for bringing attention to their party. Without our boy, the CCWS would just look like any other feeder series.
Was it poor judgement? Sure it was, but it’s still pretty funny and I’ll bet he was pissing himself laughing while his buddies pulled the cart off him!

[...] NASCAR should be a much different series next year. Names like Montoya and Toyota are sure to shake things up and the good old boys are gonna whine about them furrin guys takin’ all the wins. There have been some other names trolling the paddock for a ride too. Paul Tracy hasn’t been able to get into a seat, and Jacques Villeneuve was said to be in talks with Roush Racing to put a ride together. While PT is fooling around with brewskis and golf carts, the scruffy Jacques has been busy putting together a team. [...]
