September 11, 2011. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series driver Isabelle Tremblay from St. Hippolyte, Quebec is focused on claiming the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie Championship. Her strong effort at Barrie Speedway in round ten of the series was a big step in achieving that goal.
An oil pressure problem would limit Tremblay to only a few laps during practice. Despite the setback Tremblay was confident. “I had never raced at Barrie but was improving every lap and the car was very strong†said Tremblay.
Barrie Speedway can be very difficult and the focus of the race was to reach the end with a solid finishing result. Tremblay began the 300 lap race cautiously from the 17th position. “I knew I had to take care of the car and the team kept reminding me to drive like they know I can†stated Tremblay.
The race would be littered with incidents resulting in a total of fifteen caution periods. All the while Tremblay maintained her composure despite contact from another driver. “I got turned around and that’s frustrating, I’m not going to take it anymore†said a determined Tremblay.
Still Tremblay would accomplish her mission gaining a total of six positions during the race. While she just missed another top ten finish, she did gain ground in the rookie of the year battle. “We did what we had to do today†Tremblay explained. “We had a very good finish and if not for getting hit would have been in the top ten†she added.
Team owner Dave Jacombs was very pleased with the outcome. “Our mission today was to get Isabelle to the end of the race†he stated. “I wanted her to race the track and learn and she did it perfectly. This result at a track she’s never seen before is an amazing result†he added.
Following round ten Isabelle Tremblay is second in the rookie standings, only two points from the lead. The next event for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series takes place Saturday September 17th at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
