More Christmas Shopping Ideas: Vintage Slot Cars

Over at the Jalop today, Mike has posted on the joys of vintage HO slot cars. His post got me thinking about the good old days, when the biggest stress in life was trying to figure out why my slot cars wouldn’t go. Then a thought struck. I bet there is a few cars stuffed in a box somewhere in the workshop. A quick search turned up the old Stromberg Ferrari Testa Rossa box that contains what remains of my old 1/32 slot cars.

The orange Cheetah was always my fave and the short body seemed to encourage lots of oversteer. Maybe that’s why I love rally cars so much. The big red Can Am style car was great for punting your opponent’s car off in the tight turns. I’m not sure where the AFX Porsche 917 came from, as I never had an HO set and i don’t remember having the car.

Maybe a 1/32 scale slot car track should find it’s way onto my list for Santa.

Hi,
I have a 1/32 scale Sears (Marx) Auto Road Racer set from the late 1960’s that I’m looking to sell. It’s a big set (# 9521), 95% complete, including one Indy-style car, with two spare bodies. It includes track accessories, four spare tires, miniature tools, etc. Great condition, although the box is very worn along some edges.
My preference would be to sell it to someone who could come and pick it up (SF Bay Area), but it could be shipped if necessary. I’d guess this is a pretty rare item these days. I collect model cars, but I just don’t have room for it in my collection. Asking $75. Please let me know if you know of anybody who’d be interested.
Cheers,
Alan
