Monster truck crushes spectators in Illinois

Hot on the heels of a drag car disaster in Tennessee, there has been another case of stupidity. In Dekalb, Illionois a monster truck display set up by NAPA went horribly wrong yesterday when the driver lost control following a jump. The resulting wheelie sent the truck through a crowd of spectators, through a fence and across some adjacent train tracks. Three adults and six children were hurt in the incident, including a mother and her 4 year old daughter who are in serious condition.

When are these stupid event organizers going to wake up and realize that race vehicles can be unpredictable. Parts can break, causing an uncontrollable reaction from the vehicle. Uneven or irregular surfaces can cause immediate loss of traction which can trigger a sudden change of direction. The minimum race weight for a monster truck these days is around 9500 lbs. That is a heck of a lot of weight to control when it goes out of control.

Once again, there is a driver, a team, a local police department and a national retail chain who all should have known better than to shut down a street and jump a 9500 lb vehicle with spectators in close proximity. 9 people hurt and 6 of those are children.

Stupidity!

Update: We just came across this amateur video of the incident. Don’t worry, it’s not graphic, just stupid.

I can’t believe it. You would think these idiot promoters and city officials would have learned from the recent tragedy only this last June when the funnycar was performing burnouts in front of a crowd in Tennessee and resulted in the deaths of six spectators. http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?seriesId=99&id=2906969

In my opinion they should find everyone guilty that had anything to do with it including the promoters and business that participated as well as any city officials including police that stood by and allowed it. There needs to be an example set right now.

I’d have to agree.

In looking at the overhead images that Fox provided the only conclusion is someone is criminally insane for allowing this to be conducted on a street that was only 3 lanes wide.

Jebus H Christ in a ferris wheel, a monster truck itself takes up 1 1/2 to 2 lanes alone.

The promoters should be held responsible for the accident. The car jumped straight into the audience.
