Miss Belvedere is moving on

miss-b.jpg

The story about Miss Belvedere, a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere that was recovered from it’s underground vault in Tulsa, Oklahoma generated quite the buzz here in The Garage and continues to draw new readers daily.

Unfortunately, Miss B wasn’t quite ready for the ball when she saw the light of day. In fact, she was looking more than a little bit hungover from her 50 year dirt nap. The time has come for the rusty car to go home with her new family and began the trek to New Jersey today. So what is to become of the old girl? Well, the family of Ray Humberston, the winner of the car, have no interest in restoring the car. Instead, they have teamed up with a chemical company who intend to clean the car up, remove as much rust as possible and stop the rest from progressing further. They even hope to get the engine running.

You can watch a interview with Humberston’s grandson at KOTV and follow the Miss B’s progress here.

Hey, what’s the big deal? I grew up right along the coast of Oregon and anyone who has lived on the coast and didn’t park their cars under a car port or in a garage will think that Miss Belvedere was one of their old cars. LOL.

We had our cars out of the weather but my father’s trucks looked as good as new because when he washed them he used 5 gallons of cold water and added 2 quarts of diesel. The mixture ran into all the cracks around the windshields, chrome moldings, panels and so on and there was never any rust as a result. Thank God we didn’t have ice and snow.

Ultra One isn’t doing a very good job. They have not posted any progress on the car in months. Most are beginning to think that something is up since they won’t talk about it and don’t seem to get an answers……e-mail, or call them to ask them what is going on!
