Land Speed

Every weekend during the winter, Ontario’s lakes are covered with snowmobile riding rednecks trying to set a new land speed record before they get smoked by a pressure crack. Down in the South Western States, they have the same concept, except it’s warm and they get to drive cars. Well, some of them look like cars anyway.

Anywhere there is a dry lakebed, Hot Rodders get together to set some real records in all sorts of wonderful creations. From Rods to converted wing tanks and the just plain weird, if it can be made to go faster it might put in appearance.

Over at Jalopnik, they’ve got a great gallery of racers from last weekend at El Mirage. Now will someone please tell me what this is?

Cool that you cover a dry lakes meet, El Mirage is one of the early playgrounds for hot rodders.
