One of the rather expensive realities of rallying is that sooner or later, you are going to crash. This is not an exaggeration. Every single person who has driven a rally car has left the road at some point in their competition career. It has nothing to do with talent (well, ok…to some extent it does) and everything to do with the nature of the sport.
This weekend is the Rally Great Britain, which means most teams are spending the week testing in the most horrible conditions imaginable. Ken Block’s performance so far in his debut season has surprised those who forecasted his failure, as he has had some truly impressive drives. Earlier this week, Block’s luck ran out when he hydroplaned off a rather mucky road. While Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino were unhurt, the Focus wasn’t so lucky. Not to worry though, the crew at M-Sport have prepped a spare car and the pair will be ready for the rally this weekend.
After watching this video, do you think you could have kept it on the road?
I don’t think so!
