In case the new Elantra Touring, Genesis Coupe and sedan haven’t convinced you that Hyundai is dead serious about being a major player, perhaps the Equus might do the job. This is a company that refuses to believe there is a market it cannot compete in, so the news of a luxury sedan built to compete with the best Lexus, BMW and Mercedes has to offer should come as no shock.

Although the Equus is already sold in Korea, the car was shown in North America for the first time at the New York Auto Show, where it was warmly received. Since then, the car has been shown at Hyundai dealerships across the US. The response was positive, and Hyundai found that buyers are willing to embrace the idea of a Hyundai luxury car in the Genesis, so the decision was made to sell the Equus here.

What we will get, or even what it will be called, is up in the air. Apart from being built on the Genesis platform, we do not know much else about the car. The Equus will be on display, and can be seen driving around the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance-another reminder, and a stern warning that Hyundai plans to take the super-luxury class by storm.
