The Infiniti G-series coupes and sedans have the distinction from the automotive press as being the only cars that are true, direct competitors to the vaunted BMW 3-series. Same basic formula with slightly different interpretations. The consensus usually boils down to the BMW being the better driver’s car, the Infiniti an incredibly talented car, and a slightly better value.
Yet BMW has offered a 3-series convertible longer than Infiniti has been making cars. One wonders what took Infiniti so long, but come 2009 the G37 convertible will make its way into dealer’s showrooms. The drop-top G gets a three-piece auto retractable hardtop. Available interior trim upgrades set the convertible apart, as well as audio and climate controls specific to enhancing the top down experience round out the changes.
This is not Infiniti’s first convertible. The easily forgettable M30 convertible was sold in North America from 1990-92, so it’s been quite awhile. Nissan has offered its 350Z convertible since 2004-a car the G37 shares a chassis with-so again, I have to wonder why Infiniti waited five years to bring this car to market. The addition of the convertible makes an almost even match-up of G vs 3-series models-coupe, sedan (in two and all-wheel drive), and finally, convertible. The only model lacking now is a wagon, a model I seriously doubt Infiniti will even consider making as its FX Crossovers are already built on a G platform and share the same mechanicals.

I’ve heard a few people ask: Why?
Not sure why they ask that though, as the profile looks awesome!
