Lamborghini certainly has a bloated ego when it comes to comparing the 12-cylinder, 650HP Reventon against other supercars. Feeling their superiority is unmatched by anything on the ground with four wheels, Lamborghini, arranged to challenge a Tornado aircraft to a runway duel.
The race took place at the Ghedi military airport in Italy. Much to the consternation of Lamborghini suits, sipping wine, the Reventon lost, but not without a fight.
Driven by an official Lamborghini test driver, the Reventon took the early lead on the 3000 meter long runway before being overtaken, and flown over, by the Tornado in the last few meters as it reached speeds in excess of 211mph. The premise for the extraordinary race was that the design by the Centro Stile Lamborghini drew inspiration from the world of modern aviation.
If you’re thinking of trying this at home, you’re out of luck. Only 20 of the $1.4 million vehicles are to be built and delivered in 2008, and all are sold.
I would love if they did a free drawing for the lamborghini or the tornado. That would be a gift. But how the heck would anyone find out about it? I don’t know. Any way. These two machines seem like the fastest things on earth. I’d want the guts to take either out for a joy ride.
