With all the fake or photoshopped photos and false claims traveling around the Internet these days all too often we have to use a lot of skepticism. The same skepticism seemed fitting when the following images first began circulating. Believe it or not these are authentic, un retouched photographs of a real accident that occurred on State Route 59 near the city of Hurricane, Utah on December 30, 2006 and the entire sequence of events has been confirmed by Hurricane police chief Lynn Excell.
The Hurricane City Police department and Fire Rescue also confirmed these photos are consistent with the report that was taken. The driver of a 1991 GMC pickup lost control and slid onto the right shoulder and then swerved across the highway onto the opposite shoulder which resulted in crashing through a barricade and after hitting the culvert below with such force that the truck sailed through the air, flipping end over end, landing upright on a narrow, unpaved right-of-way 20 feet away, approximately one foot from the edge of the deep ravine shown in photo #3. As amazing as all this is nobody was seriously hurt.
The driver said he was only going 55 miles per hour but the police report verified the trucks skid marks were 92 feet long indicating a probable speed more to the tune of 80 miles per hour.
If you think this guy was lucky just wait until you take a look at the following photo!
The last overhead photo taken of Highway 59 near Hurricane City, Utah gives an even more definite feeling for how serious this could have been.
