Those of you who follow the weather may have heard that parts of Florida are more soggy than sunny these days. The Daytona Beach area has been hit with no less than 21 inches of rain last week. The Daytona Speedway is somewhat unique, essentially acting as a big bowl.
According to AP, there was no damage to the racing surface. In fact, Speedway rep Andrew Booth told AP that the water was never even on the track. Take a look at the photos after the break and form your own opinion on that one. Personally, I doubt the safer barriers that are partially submerged are in the paddock!
Either way, the water has now been pumped out and the track should be ready for the Coke Zero 400 race on the 4th of July. If not, the good old boys could race those fan boats they use in Florida’s Everglades!

Despite the official denials I am concerned that the track surface could have suffered some damage. I guess we’ll find out during the Coke Zero 400.
I didn’t realize they were hosting hydroplane racing at Daytona this year!
Got me a 10 ft rubber dingy with a 500 horse V10 on its back and I’m heading for Daytona…
Seriously though, that amount of water sitting on the track for a while could cause some pretty bad damage. I guess we’ll have to wait and see eh!
You guys act like it’s never rained at Daytona before. lol.
