GM might be smarting from the initial buzz about the Chrysler Smart car.
At the LA Auto show Chevrolet announced that they will build a minicar based on the Beat concept. The car will test its metal in foreign markets. Production will start in 2009, but the US and Canada are not on the short list of countries that have been chosen.
It appears that India, Korea and Latin American venues will see the first release of the car.The beat concept made its debut at the 2007New York Auto Show alongside two other concepts geared for the urban car buyer.
GM product maestro Bob Lutz said the car will be produced in South Korea and squeeze out 50mpg from its four cylinder engine.
It’s still up for debate whether we will see the car in North American showrooms anytime soon.
