Never one to miss out on an opportunity to have some fun, I decided to take advantage of the recent ice storm in Ontario to do a bit of top down motoring in the 2018 Mazda MX-5 RF. I mean, after I consistently give my colleagues a hard time about driving convertibles with the top up, so I didn’t really have a choice. What I found was that Winter is no match for Mazda’s all season sportster.
Some readers may recall that I am one of the co-chairman of the Automobilie Journalists Association of Canada’s Canadian Car of the Year Awards. My co-chair partner in crime, Justin Pritchard, has made himself known for his fast talking video reviews from northern Ontario. The time has come to begin sharing Pritchard’s videos.
The first one we’ll be sharing is actually a step away from the usual auctioneer speak, instead using text to talk about how the 2017 Audi Allroad Quattro handles the white stuff.

For 2017, Porsche went back to its roots by dropping the flat six in the Boxster/Cayman line-up in favour of a four cylinder layout, just like road and racing cars of old. They also resurrected the badge 718, which first referred to an iconic four pot racer from the late Fifties through to the early Sixties.
The decision hopefully will also reduce the number of comparisons between the “entry level” Porsche and the 911.
The good news is that the new car is in every way worthy of the Porsche name and drivers will be instantly aware of what type of car they are sitting in.

After years of stiffing the North American market, Ford has finally brought the hottest of their hot hatches to our shores for 2016. I finally got to spend some time at the wheel of the incredible Ford Focus RS.
After the first few days of redline shifts and generally being a noisy nuisance, I discovered that the blue bomb is a thirsty wee beastie when driven hard. It isn’t too bad when driven like a grannie though.
Last year, I got to experience Castrol® EDGE® Virtual Drift with Matt Powers using the Oculus Rift headset. in 2016, the Titanium Trials are back with two new videos to launch Castrol® EDGE® Supercar Oil, pushing the limits of cars, virtual reality tech, and, of course, Castrol EDGE.
If you’re lucky enough to have ever seen the Koenisgsegg One:1 or the Aston Martin Vulcan in person, you know that they are breathtaking vehicles. On the track they are phenomenal supercars; this time, they teamed up with REWIND for a different sort of virtual reality – to have drivers Christoffer Nygaard and Darren Turner race against themselves in the supercars on a virtual version of the Ascari race track in Spain. Nygaard, a test driver for Koenigsegg and Turner, a two-time Le Mans winner, were recorded in virtual sessions on the simulator. The data was then combined to create their top virtual lap, ultimately racing their Clone Rivals on the real 5.435km track.
Aston Martin Vulcan:
Once upon a time, the six cylinder versions of muscle cars were sort of the red headed step-child of real muscle cars. Those days are gone and the V6 version of the sixth generation Camaro is a real contender.
We hit the dirt with Crazy Leo Urlichich to see how drivers can learn how to control their car on loose surfaces like a pro.

Man, it seems like forever since I have posted anything here in The Garage Blog! Looking back at the archives, I have been absent since last July and Megan Green has been picking up the slack with her awesome rally and rallycross coverage. Even Tom Williams seems to be back in the saddle somewhat of late.
I’ve been spending the bulk of my time over at Driven Wheels and grilling up a storm as The Garage Guy, but I have decided to start a new video series based out of my crazy messy garage that will include product reviews, track day stuff and some DIY in the garage.
This time around we introduce the Garage Series light from Haiku Home, a cordless impact gun from MAC Tools and a gorgeous set of new wheels from Fast Wheels, along with a review of this week’s tester, a 2016 Nissan Sentra.
Check it out!
