Almost every bike has a one defining element, something that differentiates it in a crowded market place. Occasionally that’s luscious looks, cosseting comfort, prodigious power, outstanding handling (okay, I ran out of alliteration there); with the BMW R1200R you’ve got to dig as deep as your first good pull of the throttle. There it is, what defines an otherwise plain Jane “nakedâ€Â… an engine that gouts torque like a Monty Python skit gouts blood.
Thumb the button and the door swings upward with a satisfying mechanical grating and an electric motor’s thrum laboring. In my mind’s eye that is my welcome to the Garage, as I fish around my pocket for a set of keys. The joy of reviewing bikes and cars for a “living†(I use the term loosely) is you’re a member of the vehicle of the week club. Not sure what to call this one other than a Rat Trike. Gary Faules spotted this contraption cruising in Mountain View, California. While it’s looks are questionable, you’ve gotta admire the possibilities of this eco friendly machine.
It all began in 1981 when a group of bike riding buddies decided to get together at a local bar in Port Dover on Friday the 13th. They had such a good time that they decided to hook up every Friday the 13th. Today is the 45th Friday the 13th since that day and the small town of Port Dover can expect literally thousands of riders to descend upon their town, even as I’m writing this. It’s going to be a beautiful day, so if you’ve got access to a bike of any kind, skip out of work and head to the lakeside town of Port Dover Ontario.
Thanks to our man on the west coast, we now have the full story on the Forkless Chopper from it’s builder Christian Dotson.
The main reason for building this bike was to introduce and help establish myself in the custom motorcycle industry. I chose to build this bike, in particular, to highlight my design, engineering, and fabrication abilities. I knew I had to do something different and innovative, in order to stand out from other builders.
Today we have more from the Grand National Roadster Show. Not only do they have the creamiest crop of rods around, but they also happen to have some pretty hip cycles to. The two wheeler above was built by Christian Dotson. Not only did it win the America’s Most Beautiful Motorcycle award, but it has also went taken top honours at the San Francisco Rod, Custom and Motorcycle Show.
