It’s Daytona 500 Sunday. I figured now is as good a time as any to put together this weeks’ Carnival of Wheels, with the race on in the background. While I don’t normally watch the good ole boys, I need to keep an eye on the Home Depot car during the big ones. So far, Tony is staying near the front, in fact he’s in the lead after this latest round of green flag pit stops. Let’s hope he can keep that trend rolling, as he’ll be tough to beat if he’s at the front near the end.
The submissions are a bit on the lean side this week, but that’s a good thing, as the house will be full of people soon. While the ads are on, grab a fresh cold one & sit back for a quick read while the cars go round and round.
NASCAR, like all forms of motorsport has a history of cheating bending the rules. Let’s face it, if you’re not trying to find some leeway in the rules, you’re not trying hard enough. Brian at RaceDriven has all the details of the biggest penalties NASCAR officials have ever levied against teams they’ve caught trying to get the shine home quicker than the next guy.
Over at Automoblog, Egon visited the 2007 Chicago Auto Show and he’s got his thoughts here and here. It’s cool to see the choices made by manufacturers as to what cars they’ll show at Toronto & Chicago, when the shows are so close together. We got the McLaren SLR 722, while Chicago got the Camaro convertible. We’ll get to see the real thing sooner though, as it’s being built just down the road. Bring on the PT units!
This week’s newcomer is a guy named Joe, who reviews stuff. While there is a sniff of pay per post in there, Joe has a pretty personal review of the new Mercedes Benz E320, as compared to a classic MB sedan he once owned. Welcome to the CoW Joe. Oh yes, please remember…it’s not nice to dial while you’re driving!
Finally for this week’s CoW, we’ve got Craig from down under at AutoFix. This week, Craig is outlining the basics of a tune up for a fuel injected car. I’ve gotta say that the past few years at Nissan have spoiled me. Ignition wires? Who the hell uses those anymore?
Well, the dinner guests have left the building. I got to see a little of the Daytona 500 and it looks like they kept the BIG ONE for the last ten laps. Well, really 9 laps, 5 laps and again on the last lap. An awful lot of bent tin in those last few laps. I’m betting that someone is going to spend the next few races trying too stay away from Smoke! I’m sure our boy isn’t too happy tonight, after having the best car in the field all day!
Be sure to visit next Sunday when we roll out the next Carnival of Wheels. All you bloggers out there remember to send us your submissions by Saturday.
