Carnival of Wheels: Edition #7

Welcome back to The Garage folks, I hope you’ve all had a nice busy week. With all that Chicago Auto Show stuff to read about & then the Bud Shootout, there’s been no shortage of car action this week. Now that you’re probably sitting down watching the Grammy’s, why not take a few moments and read bit. Just remember to grunt, nod & smile every now and then so the significant other thinks you’re actually watching the show!

Craig Wilson from Autofix has become a weekly regular around the Carnival of Wheels, and for good reason. This week, Craig has a great DIY post on changing your own oil. Not only is it informative for the budding back yard mechanic, but it’s always fun comparing terms with those who speak the same language in different countries.

A newcomer to the Carnival of Wheels, but not new to The Garage is Phillip Powell at Classical Drive. Some of us car bloggers are more than a few years younger than Phil, but this guy has written more about cars over the years than most people have even read. Way back before I was born (sorry Phil), our man Phil was writing for a little mag called Canadian Track & Traffic. I happen to have the entire run of that magazine here in the archives, including the issue with my Dad’s AMX on the cover. This week, Phil tells us that he’d rather have a Porsche 356 in the shed than a new Cayman. While I love the old cars, I’ve got to say I was smitten by the Cayman myself. We might have to do some back to back testing to decide this one!

Over at Automoblog, Egon had received his media pass for the Chicago show and was eager to show off some of the cars he was looking forward to seeing. I’ll bet that Egon has lots of photos for us later this week.

We have another newcomer to the CoW this week. Jeff Fisher writes at DrivingEnthusiast.net and he focuses on the performance driver training world, along with some Ford & Honda viewpoints. This week he’s got a few opinions on the news that Ford is going to rebadge the 500 as the Taurus. Jeff also has an interesting piece on the quality of aftermarket performance parts and installers. Definitely worth a read.

We have a third newcomer this week! Leonard Alexander has built a truly valuable resource at howtowheelchair.com and this week he’s added to that value with the news that Audi has become the latest manufacturer to join Motability. This program enables the disabled to access a wide range of vehicles at affordable prices. This topic might be worth a bit more investigation.

Finally, we’ve got CoW regular Brian Vermette at Race Driven. This third installment of a NASCAR season preview covers Brian’s driver picks for the season. First up on the list, Tony Stewart has already served notice that he means business, with his win at the Bud Shootout last night.

That’s it for this week, I hope you’ve enjoyed the trip through this week’s news from the blogosphere. Don’t forget to come back next week. If you blog about cars, get included next week by visiting our submissions page.

Glad you liked the ’safety boots’! Have to admit it isn’t an original picture though, wish I’d thought of them! Thanx for including my post yet again.
