Carnival of Wheels: Edition #41

It has certainly been a busy weekend here in The Garage. We had a visit from Grandpa Bud, which was a great thrill for the kids. It isn’t often that Bud and I get to hang out together, as he lives way out in British Colombia. It was great for me too, as there is nothing better than hangin’ with the old man, drinking far too much wine and hearing stories of the early days of racing in Canada. The next time we get together, I think we’ll take some video of the conversation and drink a little bit less so that I actually retain all the details. As for today’s CoW, submissions are a little on the light side, but that’s a good thing considering my fuzzy state today. Did I mention there might have been some wine last night? Anyway, enough about my hangover, let’s get on with the Carnival of Wheels.

There are many different views of electronic technologies being used in a car. For some, they are considered the root of all car accidents. For others, productivity on the go is what keeps their business alive. CoW newcomer Sagar Satapathy has a post at bootstrapper listing some of the tools available to create a truly mobile office. My personal fave is the Targus WiFi scanner. This cool keychain gadget will tell you what WiFi signal is available and how strong it is, before you even fire up your lappy.

Those Pansy Patrollers are at it again this week, with some great driver instruction. There are lots of techniques that novice drivers need to learn and the Pansies are doing their best to remove some of the mystery surrounding them. This week, Henry does a great job of describing the benefits and how to’s of threshold braking.

The next one is for all of our contributing bloggers. Michael from Traveling Stories Magazine is holding a contest for the best travel writing story with a $125 cash prize. This sounds like fun. Given that I’ll be on a quick road trip from Ontario to Connecticut this week, maybe I’ll just have to send in a driving story.

Over at RaceDriven, Brian is trying to decide which series chase is the most exciting to watch unfold. As I don’t really watch too much NASCAR or competitive drags for that matter, I’ll just have to leave this up to you folks.

And that’s it for this week’s hot lap around the auto blogs. I’m going to lie down in front of the fireplace like a tired dog and enjoy the warmth. Bloggers, be sure to get your submissions in by Midnight Saturday to be included in the next Carnival of Wheels. Readers, don’t forget to drop by next Sunday for yet another CoW
