Carnival of Wheels Edition #3

It’s been a busy week here in The Garage and it’s been equally busy out in the car blogging world. With the NAIAS, new model releases and news leading up to the New York show, there has been lots to read about. So let’s get things rolling, we’ve got lots on tap today.

Detroit is only a 5 hour drive from here, but I just didn’t have the time to get there so I’ve been making do with the online coverage. Brian at RaceDriven.com did manage the trip and shares his thoughts. While I’ve never been a big Chevy fan, that Camaro drop top certainly does look sweet.

Sometimes all it takes to make someone’s day is a friendly wave. Like many of us, Arun is a commuter and he sees far too many drivers who exhibit antisocial behaviour. He even taught me a new word! Usurpation: A wrongful seizure or exercise of authority or privilege belonging to another See, the CoW is good for furthering your education!

Most of us have received that car repair bill as big as a mortgage payment. You always feel like you might have been taken for a ride even if you trust your mechanic. Craig at autofix.com has the goods on what goes into those prices. This guy should know, he’s a tech and used to own his own shop.

Depending on your point of view, mobile tech is either super productive or a big driver distraction. Either way, it was only a matter of time before the tech wars moved into the automotive world. Rod from Slippery Brick has all the deets on Ford’s new Sync system, that was developed with Microsoft. Now you can hook up your Ipod, PDA or lappy up to your car & keep connected all the time. Can it be long before Apple released the Icar?

Every guy who works on cars has had his brain dead moments. Add in a bit of macho ego and Craig has a pretty funny story.

The oil wars have brought us some pretty cool products over the years, but they’ve also revealed some snake oil. Dorri at If it’s got an engine… tells us a bit about Texaco’s latest salvo.

This has been a week full of concept cars. Honda seems to have rethought the concept for the the NSX replacement. Egon at automoblog makes some comparisons between the ASC concept and the HSC concept.

BioDiesel my fat butt! The folks over at Avant News have a preview of the 2010 LA Autoshow. Ford might be planning to solve 2 of America’s biggest problems by fueling cars with melted body fat. I can see a whole crop of Lipodiesels wearing Powered by your fat Ass bumper stickers. Funny as hell!

While we’re trying to solve the world’s problems, that Craig guy at autofix has a great tutorial on what to watch out for when maintaining your car. This guy has been busy writing.

Wisebread wants you to get rid of the weight in your trunk. No, they’re not talking about Lipodiesel, they’ve got some great recommendations on how to keep your fuel costs down.

What is wrong with American automakers? We’ve asked that question here before & today Dorri is asking it again. Really, when are they going to get a clue?

I’ve saved the really fun stuff for last. Chris at the Lotus Elise Blog not only drives a sweet Elise, but he’s got some mad photog skills. He’s put together 10 of his fave pics from 2006 and offered them up as a whole range of desktop wallpapers. I suspect there will be lot’s of offices with new views tomorrow.

Wow, that it’s tough having to think so hard on a Sunday morning. Be sure to visit all of our contributors and enjoy the read.

The next Carnival of Wheels will be Sunday January 21, so heat up your keyboard and visit our submissions page before Saturday at Midnight.

Thankyou for including my posts in your carnival. It’s great to see my writing is good enough! I’ll try not to submit so many next time!

I see that the Canivasl of Wheels is now in full drive and thanks for posting about column on the Detoit autoshow, the Chevy Camaro Convertible was the best and it mostly will go into production.

One thing, I didn’t make the trip to Detroit for the autoshow, to go a little further, I have never been to any of the major autoshow, the only autoshows I visit are right here in southern New England, I just used the online blogs and websites that were listed below to write that column, wish I could have gone, but nope.

See Yeah!

Craig, we can always use more techs here in The Garage. Just keep up the great posts.

Brian, sorry…I misunderstood you… I thought you went. any thoughts about going to NY in April? I’m toying with the idea of driving down.

I’ll be interested to see if the Camaro convertible will be built here in Durham (oshawa) alongside the hardtop.

Chris…your corner of the net is a fave haunt of mine. You are going to hear from my new bro in law soon. he lives in Nashville and might be convinced to swap his rx8 for an elise! I told him that you might take him for a spin if he’s nice.
