Carnival of Wheels: Edition #11

Wow, the sun is shining and the snow is melting. It’s beginning to feel a lot like spring outside The Garage. With the start of racing season only a few weeks away, spring really must be close. With warmer times coming, thoughts of spring break are in most peoples minds and car bloggers are no different. This Week’s CoW is a little bit light, as many folks are already gearing up for the family vacation. That’s OK though, because that means I’ll get back outside quickly, so let’s get on with it.

We love videos here in The Garage & the normally socially responsible folks at WiseBread have a sweet vid of some shopping mall hoonage. The dude is just crazy, drives into the closed mall, makes a few turns, and out the other side. He even did a driveby through the food court! Cool.

At some point in every tech’s career, some friend will come calling, looking for help in assessing the quality of a used car. All too often, the one thing that gets missed is the one thing that leads to some sort of catastrophic failure. This is the time when friendship is tested, from both sides. Many techs refuse to help friends and family make a used car purchase for just this reason. Our weekly contributor from down under, Craig at Autofix has a tale of woe that involved a broken timing belt and a half assed used car mechanic. This experience just reinforces the need for getting to the vehicle’s maintenance history before buying used.

Dontcha just hate it when you go out of your way to visit a special event and you come away feeling let down? That’s how Brian from RaceDriven felt after the drive to the 2007 Speedway Expo in Massachusetts. He came away with some pretty cool shots though and that in itself makes the trip worthwhile. I go to so many events that sometimes I too am a bit disappointed. I think it’s because I’m becoming a bit jaded, as I’ve been lucky enough to see so much cool stuff. I’m getting harder to impress!

Well folks, that’s it for today’s Carnival Of Wheels. As promised, short but sweet. Don’t forget to get your submissions in for next week’s CoW before Saturday is over. If you’re heading away for spring break, send something in before you go.

What’s this about the snow melting? We had 38 degrees C today, which I think is about 100 in your language. Wish I was there! Great job of the CoW again this week.
Take care
