Just a couple of weeks after taking a run at the tire wall on a bike, our man on the west coast, Will Faules, has once again felt the pain of a pile of used woodyears. Except this time, instead of on two wheels, he was rolling in a pumpkin!
To be fair here, Will is a hell of a driver, but I do believe he was the one who directed the term Cone Pirate towards yours truly! He had that coming! Perhaps his pre race headgear created a bit of bad karma.
The weekend was somewhat of a mixed bag, with Will attacking the field and winning the class on Saturday’s Spec E30 race at Infineon Raceway. Attack might be an appropriate term, as during one pass the 35 pound front bumper was removed from the front of orange machine leaving The Great Pumpkin 15 pounds underweight for the post race weigh off. The resultant DNF put Will mid pack for the start of Sunday’s race.
At the end of lap 1, Will had already made his way into 3rd place. On slicks. In the rain. Part way through lap two, Will began his attack on the leader.
As he pushed the issue with the leader, it became apparent that his pre race judgement had been somewhat optimistic and he should have chosen the rain tires rather than a full dry setup! After a heated discussion with the tire wall, the orange machine was back on its way, finishing the race but well down the leader board.
No worries Will, we all learn from our mistakes! Besides, even the best of us crush a cone or two sometimes

The way I see it, unlike the cones you demolished, and that are no doudt in hiding throughtout all of Canada, Will’s pumpkin will live on to finish out the season.
