Canadian racing enthusiasts will all recognize Russ Bond. This guy has been a fixture in the motorsports scene here in Ontario for years. You might have seen him on TV, in all sorts of print sources, on the radio or online at one of his motorsports sites. Russ has even spent his fair share of time behind the wheel of a mini stock car.
Russ has decided to put together a pre spring enduro event for all the local racers to blow out the cobwebs. The first Canadian Karting News.com 200 aims to pit 40 teams of 4 against each other at the new Grand Prix Kartways in Downsview.
This event looks so fun that The Garage may just have to put together a team. We might be able to put together a few ringers to offset the power to weight problems that yours truly creates.

Start 2007 off with a ‘CKN Cup’ on March 4, 2007
TORONTO, ONTARIO – Russ Bond Agency announced today the formation of the inaugural ‘CKN Cup’ which will be presented to the winners of the inaugural Canadian Karting News 200 presented by GrandPrix Kartways at an event held at the new Grand Prix Kartways facility located at Downsview Park on March 4.
“We’re really excited about having our own race,” Owner Russ Bond said. “It is a great way for racers to kick off their year.”
The race will pit 40, four driver teams that will compete in a one day shootout in the electric powered indoor kart track.
“We are looking forward to hosting the racing community at our facility and we are sure the canadiankartingnews.com 200 presented by Grand Prix Karting will be a fantastic event for the racers to participate in,” said Domenic Di Gironimo, owner of GrandPrix Kartways.
“It is a great facility, and the karts are fantastic,” Bond said. “GrandPrix Kartways sets the benchmark for any karting facility, and we are really excited to see who will win the CKN Cup. I expect once the word gets out, there will be no shortage of talented drivers and teams to contend for the CKN Cup”.
RBA would like to invite all readers, advertisers and supporters of all their sites to come up with a team to enter the inaugural event. “I think an event like this will draw teams from not only the karting world, but the car racing world, and automotive enthusiast world also, Bond said. “We will promote the event on all three sites – Canadian Karting News, Canadian Racers and Painkillerz. – plus there will be some promotion of the event done at GrandPrix Kartways.
CKN and Canadianracers.com will cover the event ‘live’ on both sites, and teams that enter early will have team profiles posted on the RBA sites.
“Just from talking about the race with several people in the industry, the support for this type of event seems to be there,” Bond said. “It is sort of our way of getting our readership together for a good time doing what we all love – racing.”
RBA will field teams from each of its websites. “We are planning a team for CKN, Canadianracers.com and painkillerz.ca,” Bond added.
Team will be comprised of four drivers. Teams will select two drivers to do two 20 lap qualifiers. At the end of the qualifiers, the groups will be determined for the canadiankartingnews.com 200 presented by GrandPrix Kartways.
