After I had been writing about cars for a couple of years, I began noticing a funny phenomenon: At US car events, people would recognize me as that Canadian guy while at similar events here in Canada, people had never read my work. Funny thing that. It just shows one of the many differences between more traditional outlets and those of us who work strictly on the web. A few of our friends here in The Garage have recently undertaken new endeavors on the web that I thought our readers might enjoy visiting.
Ask any older Jag owner and they’ll tell you, “If a Jag’s not dripping oil on your driveway, then you’d better check that it has some in itâ€Â.
Regular readers may recognize Crash Corrigan from his regular comments here in The Garage. Crash doesn’t really come to us through traditional media, rather through one of the Auto123. As one of the heavy hitters in the Canadian online auto media, they may as well be a newspaper outlet. Combining his British wit and more than a few decades wrenching British tin, CC knows his stuff and isn’t afraid to let you know in his newest project Car Keys. With the aid of Simon Burn, Car Keys brings unique reviews and they guys are promising some video along the way too.
Mark Atkinson is hardly your traditional automotive media type, given that he’s not old and he’s certainly not fat. He leaves Fat and Old to myself and Crash respectively. Mark has done most of his within traditional formats though, having been editor of Inside Track, Carguide and World of Wheels magazines. Having taken the plunge into the freelance pool, Mark has launched Driving Guy. With 10 years of writing about cars under his belt, I would think we’re going to see great things from Mark’s new project.
That brings me to another guy who has been at this for a long time, comparative to his young age. Michael Banovsky isn’t exactly new to the web, but his blog has just gone through a full refresher, so it kinda counts as new. From reviews to motorsports and lots of photography, Michael has packed a ton of content into Banovsky.com I think Mr Banovsky and Mr Williams have been drinking the same forgotten kool aid lately.
Welcome to the auto blogging wars gentlemen. It is truly great to see some more Canucks out here in the blogosphere!
Thanks for the kind words, Gary! We’re all just trying to follow the fantastic example you’ve set with The Garage. Lots of catching up to do.
It’s a good job that I visit your site as part of my morning ritual or I wouldn’t have noticed the great plug you gave us. Thanks buddy!
Carkeys.ca is still in the birth stage with a few tweaks still to do, but I’m looking forward.
I’ll join you if I may in wishing the best to Mark and Michael. They’re great guys and both have the ability to produce fine work. I’m adding them to my morning read right now!
As far as recognition south of the border goes… I’m down there all the time too, but nobody recognizes me! Could that be because you keep describing me as “Fat and old”? Thanks a lot mate! Nobody will know who I am if you keep confusing them like that!!! 🙂
As you can see, I’m not exactly a morning person. I can’t even spell my own name right at this time of the day…See above!
I’d better go and get my coffee fix now 🙂
Hey…the fat bit applies to me….you’re just old 🙂
Thanks for the shout-out, Gary. Have fun at Tall Pines  both Mark and I are bummed we can’t make it this year!
Cheers, M!
Yes, thanks again to everyone, but Michael has no reason to be bummed. Something about being in California driving Porsches must take some of the sting out of not being in Bancroft! Hah!
Love the Jag quote. Love it!
I actually served my apprenticeship on Land Rovers, but I also worked on Jaguars for a number of years. Now you know where I got my warped sense of humor from.
It’s not that you have to be completely raving bonkers to work on British cars, but if you’re not a least slightly twisted with a complete and utter warped view of the intricate workings of an automobile, then you won’t last that long 🙂
Where and what is Canada?
Oh man….us igloo livin, dog sled drivin northern types should open a can of whoop ass on you southern furrin car luvers!
As a New Englander, I find it humorous that I live South of the Border. Reminds me of the rest stop of the same name in South Carolina.
Oh, if my memory works, I don’t think he’s all that far away from you!
ps…porsche guy…you might want to watch Banovsky, as he’s stationed in the Porsche booth in LA as we speak!!!!
Gary,
Thanks for the heads-up and couldn’t resist the dig:-) I’m actually and honorary Canuck according to my father’s side of the family.
@Michael,
What’s the word on the big announcement tomorrow from my favorite brand??
He’s been on Twitter all day today with photos, and comments on the LA Show, including Porsche. You should get on Twitter.
