Canada falls off 2009 Formula one schedule but…

Many major market media outlets have been reporting this morning that the Canadian Grand Prix has been dropped from the 2009 Formula 1 schedule.

The interesting thing about this is the revelation that the organizers seem to have been left out of the loop on the decision, having just released this very brief press release:

MONTREAL, Oct. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The executives of the Grand Prix of
Canada have learned via the media of the omission of the Grand Prix of Canada
from the F1 Championship 2009 calendar.
Therefore, the organization will issue no comment until having spoken to
Formula One Management (FOM) and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile
(FIA).

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Will F1 be absent from North America in 2009, or do the FIA need to learn to proof read things before publishing them?

Brazil and Aust. are probably on the hit list soon.
The Brit. GP will be toast if Donnington modifications are not done in time.
If Brazil and Aust. are dropped that will be 3 continents out of the World? Championship.
Did not Canada vote against Mad Max in the mess earlier this year?
With NA a major market for several major teams or their sponsor I would not think this will sit well with them.

Yahoo reported that several drivers were unhappy with the track surface, despite other recent improvements.
Seems fishy to me…maybe a little greasing going on to get other venues on the schedule? Dirty deeds in F1? Never.

Mad Max, Greasing, Dirty Deeds….

Methinks I’ve heard this story before.

… someone should whip them into shape.

They’re alienating a whole continent by taking it out of Montreal. It’s been a well attended race by the fans and popular with the fans, the teams and the drivers. It also carries it’s own character and personality, joie de vivre …

So much for Driver’s WORLD Championship.

I study the history, and history has been made there. But now that the dollar reigns, with judgement and memory obliterated, I’ll finding harder and harder to not chuck it all, and just stick to reading of past glories.

Hard to be a World Championship when you omit North America entirely. Brazil can’t be far off. Is it me or are Max and Bernie determined to piss off North American F1 fans at all costs?

There is a press conference in Montreal this afternoon at 4:30 to discuss the future of the Canadian Grand Prix. We’ll keep you up to date as the news arrives.

Maybe its getting too $$$ to ship F1 around the world.

Sucks because I was actually hoping to go in 09, maybe Cart/Indy can get their heads on straight and make a return?

Andre, you’ll just have to hop in the GT6 and head down to the big smoke from the little smoke and visit the Honda Indy in Toronto next summer!

Why aren’t there any F1 events in the US? MotoGP came back. In fact, the Laguna Seca event went so well they added a round at Indy.
