Not satisfied enough to gouge us at the pump while making billions, Exxon Mobil Corp. believes it has found an answer to a problem that has stumped the auto industry for some time, how to use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, like those found in cell phones and laptops, to power cars and trucks.
This weekend, at a conference in Anaheim, Calif., Exxon Mobil will unveil super thin plastic sheeting the company says can improve the power, safety and reliability of lithium-ion batteries for use in automobiles. And if Exxon Mobil has the patent on this film, it might not be a pretty picture when your hybrid goes from oil to electricity.
Could be a big financial “jolt.”
Oh, by the way, we’re not the only ones hurting at the pump from big oil. Most gas station owners, especially the moms and pops, are suffering. The profit margin stays the same as when gas was cheap, more consumers use credit cards to pay the high gasoline cost, which adds around 3% to every transaction. Also, people buy less in the stations convenience store, hurting profits.
