This means bad news for trucks used to make the construction industry move. It appears the Armani clad economists working for GM somehow missed the story.

By inexplicitly sleeping at the switch GM lots are now crammed with a 153 day supply of Silverado’s and a 150 day inventory of GMC Sierra’s despite current $5,000 rebates on 2007 models.

General Motors is now scurrying to play catch up by chopping January production, but the dilemma of sleeping Silverado’s and Sierra’s still remains.

It seems that Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan all were aware of what everyone America knew except for those at GM. All four manufacturers currently have inventories in the industry accepted 60 day range.

Chevrolet probably will have to boost incentives and advertising to unload those vehicles pouring on more goodies then the already announced 5 grand deduction. 2008 Silverado’s already show $1,000 cash off.

Sweaty Chevy execs initially tried to use their dealers as depositories for the backlog. With large inventories already on the lots, many dealers are saying ‘no mas” to GM’s invitation to acquire even more of the currently out of vogue Silverado’s.

The bottom line is if you are in the market for a former Motor Trend Truck of the Year, January might be your lucky month.
