2009 International Car of the Year winners announced

At a gala dinner last night in Detroit, Road and Travel Magazine announced the winners of the 2009 International Car & Truck of the Year awards. Established in 1996, the annual award is judged by a panel of 16 nationally renowned automotive journalists and is given to the vehicle which most identify their target lifestyle and image.

The winners are:

2009 International Car of the Year: Nissan GT-R

2009 International Truck of the Year: Dodge Ram 1500

Editor’s note: Originally, I erroneously posted the Ford F-150 as the winner. Something seriously strange is going on with either my brain or my inbox. I can’t tell which, as I deleted the original press release after posting. All I know is that our good friend Crash Corrigan pointed out the error of my ways and then I went back to my inbox to find the press release for the ICOTY marked as unread. Weird.

  1. Just to clarify…The Nissan GT-R won the International Car of the Year award, with the Dodge Ram taking the title of International Truck of the year.

The Hyundai Genesis won the North American Car of the Year award, with the Ford F150 winning the North American Truck of the Year award.

No news yet on what won the Car of the Universe award, nor the Interplanetary Car & Truck of the Year awards, and I understand that the results for the Outer Mongolian Best Car & Yak Buggy awards are still being tabulated.

The results however are in from the Crash Corrigan’s Best car of Detroit award, and that goes to VW’s new Blue Spot Concept vehicle. What a car! It looks like a cross between a Porsche Boxter and an Audi TT, but the best part is, it’s powered by a Turbo Diesel. If they don’t build that car, I’m taking VW off my Christmas card list :-)

Now how the heck did I screw that up? The funny thing is that the e-mail with the press release shows up as unread in my inbox.
