The Coop interview at The Jalopy Journal

Caution: Boobs Ahead

Not really, the sign is a warning for the evil speed bumps the Mexicans call Topes. This shot was captured by Coop at the 2006 La Carrera Panamerica.

We promised some fun today and who are we to lie? Over at The Jalopy Journal, lucky Ryan Cochrane spent some time interviewing the man himself, Mr. Cooper, aka Coop.

“When I drew that Devil with a cigar clenched in his teeth, it was a one-off thing for a Zippo lighter. It took me about thirty minutes from start to finish, and I had no idea that it was going to become my trademark, my Flying Eyeball or Rat Fink.”

As a late blooming Coop fan, I hadn’t really known too much about the man’s background, only what I’ve picked up from a few e-mail conversations. Oh yes, and my obsession with his Flickr page. When you visit, be sure to uncheck the safe search box on your own Flickr account so you can get the full effect.

Now, enough of me! Head on over to The Jalopy Journal for the full read.

It’s Friday morning of the Labour Day long weekend. Things are busy in The Garage, so today we’re going to have a little bit of fun. There might be a few videos, a fun bit or two and later, Nelson Wu will share a huge gallery of his shots he took at the Mosport Grand Prix last weekend.
Lucky guy got some sunshine when he was shooting, unlike the pouring rain I had!

Dodge aims to set new Guiness World Record – For Scrapbooking!

August 30, 2007 by Gary Grant 1 Comment

With the rebirth of The New Chrysler, the marketing gurus at Auburn Hills have their work cut out for them as they try to reinvent the brand. Cutting out in fact is exactly what they have in mind to promote the 2008 Dodge Caravan. Given that families are the most likely to be in the market for a new minivan, what better market to tackle than millions of craft obsessed Moms?

With the help of Better Homes & Gardens scrapbooking experts, Dodge will attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the World’s Largest Photo Album. How do they intend to break this cut and paste record? By inviting consumers to add their memories to Dodge Caravan Page In History album, Dodge hopes to fill a 20 page, 9 x 12 book with Caravan memories. Oh yes, that’s 9 feet by 12 feet! This is going to be one BIG photo album.

To learn how you can join the paper cutting fun, read the full press release after the break

Video: Smokin’Donuts Rail Style

August 30, 2007 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

Over at the Jalopy Journal last weekend, they hosted the H.A.M.B. drags and Brian Fox brought out the Zorba’s Ghost dragster. After rectifying a throttle problem (or so they thought) Brian set out to show the crowds what the rail could do. He must have been taking lessons from those NASCAR winners!

Mitsubishi reveals Concept-cX at Frankfurt

August 30, 2007 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

Earlier this month, Mitsubishi showed some teaser sketches of the upcoming Concept-cX which got the blogosphere buzzing. That buzz seem warranted as more details and photos of the vehicle become available leading up to the Frankfurt Motor Show which kicks off on September 15.

With the angular front grille and headlights, there is no mistaking that the Concept-cX is the little brother of the newly released 2008 Lancer. Likewise, the functional horizontally split tailgate is borrowed from the popular 2007 Outlander. With 19 inch wheels and all wheel drive, the Concept-cX seems like it may have a bit of a split personality as it tries to combine sporty with utility. That’s a good thing.

Getting things under way, at least in concept form, is a clean 1.8 liter turbo diesel mated to Mitsubishi’s new twin clutch Sport Shift Transmission that will be found first in the Evo X. This package promises to deliver performance and fuel efficiency.

For the last 6 months or so, west coast contributor to The Garage, Gary Faules has been hard at work preparing his GT-350R clone, Lucky, for the 2007 running of La Carrera Panamerica. Earlier this week, Lucky breathed in some fresh air and fuel and burst to life with a roar and a belch of fire. Team California’s Best was kind enough to catch this on video to share with the world.

Cross Border Car Shopping: Bringing it home

August 28, 2007 by Gary Grant 31 Comments

In our ongoing series about cross border shopping, we’ve focused on the price and convenience. While retail prices of new cars are substantially cheaper in the United States than they are in Canada, the practicality of a cross border purchase depends on a buyers individual needs.

So you’ve made the decision that buying a car from south of the border is the way to go for you. You’ve called around to a few dealers, found your car and done the deal. Now what?

Fellow Nissan Truck Club member Derek Penny recently went through this process when he imported a Land Rover Discovery into Ontario. He’s gone to the trouble of documenting his story for the benefit of other intrepid cross border shoppers:

Gallery: Audi R8 makes appearance at Mosport Grand Prix

August 28, 2007 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

I got my first on the road glimpse of Audi’s new supercar, the R8, on Highway 407 on Friday afternoon. The beast has hit the streets. It was fitting then that there were 2 in attendance at the Mosport Grand Prix on Saturday morning. The silver mid engined coupe looked somewhat forlorn sitting on the hill overlooking a wet and foggy turn 1.

La Carrera Competitor: Datsun 510

August 28, 2007 by Gary Grant 3 Comments

Fresh off yesterday’s sweet e-bay find, Gary Faules has come across another cool Datsun 510. This one is being prepped to run this years La Carrera Panamerica against Gary & his GT-350 clone Lucky by a gentleman by the name of Francisco Ortiz.

You can keep tabs of Franscisco’s progress at his blog. You’ll do better if you can read Spanish, as Google Translator doesn’t really do it justice.
