We are big fans of cool stuff here in The Garage, especially when said cool stuff combines cars and the web. How about a web application that scoops race feeds from Le Mans and puts all the race and team data into a slick package for all to see.
Thomas Baekdal isn’t a car guy per se, he just loves Le Mans. Really there isn’t much more to explain, except that Thomas wants to know every tiny detail of the race as it goes on. So he took his big brain and put all the info published by the Le Mans organizers into a slick interface that fans the world over would love to see. There is only one problem. They can’t! Due to licensing issues, Baekdal has to keep his cool new tool all to himself! Unless that is, the organizers decide to use his application to share their race with the world.
So endurance race organizers, give this guy a shout. He’ll gladly help increase the value of your brand!

As promised, we’ve got a few more shots of the Savage Speed 49 Merc on it’s maiden voyage to the Paso Robles Cruise Nationals.
Over the next few days I’m sure we’ll have shots of the cruise.

Remember the first time you had an exciting ride with Uncle Bob? How about the time your mother just couldn’t stand being behind the slow-poke any longer and showed you just how fast the old family wagon could go? I have many such memories that I cherish and many more that were great times spent with my own children. I grew up in a family that loved all things automotive and my father was a fanatic when it came to making sure everything was in tip top shape. But not only did he make sure the usual items were taken care of but he even did things like take door panels off brand new vehicles and paint the inside so as to reduce rust over the next umpteen years. And the proof is in the end results. For example, I still own the 1968 Ford Camper Special that my mother bought for my father the same year I bought my first Shelby and it is still in amazing condition with no rust and over 300,000 miles on it.

If you have kids, then you’ve already been subjected to the madness surrounding the Build a Bear Workshop concept. The kids choose a bear, watch while he is filled with stuff and then choose from a wide array of clothes and accessories. They’ve even got a little stuffed Harley to go along with those jeans and pleather chaps.

When Google Maps introduced their satellite view, I think most folks thought it was pretty cool to get a somewhat blurry view of the homestead. Now they’ve gone one step further and added a new Street View feature.
While it’s a pretty cool concept, I’m not sure that I’d want the world to know that I’m drinking Corona tonight. What’s next? The peeping Tom cam?

When our west coast contributor Aaron Von Minden picked up this 49 Mercury back in February, he had one goal in mind. Drive the beast to the Cruise Nationals at Paso Robles in May. Well, Paso was last weekend and mission accomplished!

Amidst all the wondering about Michael Schumacher’s future, who would have thought that he would become a road car tester? Well, it makes sense. Buy one of Maranello’s newest steeds and know that your new Johnson extension was tuned based on recommendations of Ferrari’s best son.
Autocar caught the great one lapping the Nurburgring in a new Ferrari 599 GTB and has posted a bunch of images.

Think deep water holes are the domain of the yahoo’s in lifted Chevy half tons with gigantic tires? Well, hell no! Those crazy Queen’s disciples love a good hole as much as the next bloke! While it’s not the best quality, this video of a Land Rover 109 Lightweight is unbelievable! All is takes is a military spec Rover, extensions for intake and exhaust and a missing back door and you too can drive underwater. Oh yeah, don’t forget to choose the diesel version!

While putting together yesterday’s Carnival of Wheels, I came across a well written post by Wenchypoo with a bunch of used car buying tips. While I agreed with most of her suggestions, one sorta stuck in my craw:
One more thing that might sway a car purchase: parts for imported cars are more expensive than domestic models—the parts as well as the cars have to be imported, and this takes time and money (namely yours).
