If you’ve got a big chunk of change lying around, you might get the chance to own one of the coolest cars on anyone’s block. In August in Monterey, Christies will be auctioning Steve McQueen’s personal Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso. What a great opportunity. Steve McQueen’s favourite car. Once again, it could be yours if you have an extra mil or so.

Life’s Little Challenges

coops-driveway.JPG

The last few days have been a bit challenging, as Mamma G has been quite sick. We spent today at the hospital, only to receive a diagnosis that involved a pair of shrugged shoulders. I wanted to write when we got home, but didn’t really know what to write about. I thought it might help if I found some cool photos to look at. One of the first places I looked was Positive Ape Index, the house of Coop. He always has something cool going on. What I found was this driveway full of Coop’s toys.

It seems that Coop had a rough day a few days ago too and he found some solace in the enjoyment of his cars. Lately, I’ve spent a fair bit of time envying other people’s rides. Whether it’s the work of our west coast guy Aaron Von Minden, or Coop or any of the many other fine characters I come across in my work here in The Garage. Maybe it has something to do with my impending 40th birthday and some of the identity issues that I’ve had lately.

Will Belinda Become CEO of Chrysler?

belinda1.jpg

So the buzz in the news these days seems to suggest that Magna is the popular choice to take over the ailing Chrysler Corporation. Is it any wonder that Belinda Stronach has removed herself from politic and returned to her post as CEO of the company her Dad built?

I just have this feeling that the real reason Belinda has extracted herself from politics is that there are plans afoot for her future. I’m not the betting type, but I’d almost lay money on Belinda being the new CEO of the house that Mopar built. I’ll go one step further. Her boyfriend will have a position as labour negotiator to keep the UAW in line!

Hold onto your hats folks and bring in the referees!

Oregon Trail Rally through the lens of Andrew Harvey

harvey-and-jack.jpg

The Oregon Trail Rally is done and it looks like one of our fave shooters Andrew Harvey was throwing back some Jack. Or was Jack throwing back at him? Either way, Andrew’s got a killer gallery of images up. This guy’s work rocks!

Now will someone tell me what the deal was with the über Quattro? It looks more like a group b car than a North American club rally car.

Shelby & Ford to build 600HP Super Snake

07fordshelbygt500_tease.jpg

There have been a few grumblings that the GT500 isn’t powerful enough or that the Red Strip package is just that, stripes. Well, they couldn’t just build a beast right out of the gate now could they? They have to allow a bit of suspense.

Late yesterday, a press release was sent out of Shelby’s base in Vegas about a new project. The limited edition, street legal, 600 HP GT500 Super Snake. All that power even comes with a warranty! If you really want to go nuts, they will sell you a car with over 725 HP. Just don’t go to your local Ford store looking for warranty repairs! The engine is not the only component that has been tweaked, as the rest of the car has been brought up to snuff too.

This is one car that will do well at auction in years to come.

Spring Cleaning Contest: Show us Your Garage

spring-cleaning-contest-image.jpg

I finally got out into The Garage last weekend found that I couldn’t find…Well, I couldn’t find ANYTHING! The smoker is pushed up against the race kart and the bikes are lying on the floor. It took 10 minutes to find the hose, buried behind the road hockey gear.

This got me thinking. I’ll bet a lot of our readers have the same scene in their garage. Why don’t we have a contest to see who’s got the biggest mess in their garage? An idea was born.

So here we go.
