There are few cars that are more sensual than a 58 Mercedes 300 SL, but the new McLaren SLR 722 is definitely sexier. If you were to make a good comparison, then the SL might be in the same league as Sophia Loren, while the SLR 722 is more like Anjolina Jolie. One purrs like a kitten, while the other will rip you to pieces if you finish first.
While one might question whether the hand built SLR 722 is worth the price of a house, there is always the consideration of relative value. In 1958, the average household income in the United States was $5,100, while the average home cost was just over $12,000. The 1958 SL had a sticker price in the neighborhood of 11 grand. In the current decade, household incomes are in the $70,000 ballpark, while the median home in the states costs $227,000. The SLR 722 is close to half a Million. Wait a minute…in relative terms…this thing is worth the price of well over 2 homes!
Not only is the price out of this world, I’m pretty sure I’d finish first! The ripping would be a blast.

It’s been an incredible day at the Canadian International Autoshow. Miles and miles of walking are done and my feet are killing me, not to mention that I’m exhausted and my shoulder hurts from carrying a backpack filled with laptop and 20 pounds of press stuff.

Thanks to our man on the west coast, we now have the full story on the Forkless Chopper from it’s builder Christian Dotson.
The main reason for building this bike was to introduce and help establish myself in the custom motorcycle industry. I chose to build this bike, in particular, to highlight my design, engineering, and fabrication abilities. I knew I had to do something different and innovative, in order to stand out from other builders.

For years I’d heard of the elusive Pirelli Calendar. The annual artsy, nudie calendar that was so rare that few have ever seen one. Of the car guys I know, there are only a couple who’ve actually laid their hands on one. They’ve never had their own copy.

A few weeks ago, Mamma G and I pissed ourselves laughing at Sinful, watching a jackass style video while waiting to get inked. I know I’m a juvenile dink, but watching some guy drop a deuce out the window of a moving car is funny as hell, not to mention the trap being set to catch the lawn boy!

Welcome back to The Garage folks, I hope you’ve all had a nice busy week. With all that Chicago Auto Show stuff to read about & then the Bud Shootout, there’s been no shortage of car action this week. Now that you’re probably sitting down watching the Grammy’s, why not take a few moments and read bit. Just remember to grunt, nod & smile every now and then so the significant other thinks you’re actually watching the show!
Craig Wilson from Autofix has become a weekly regular around the Carnival of Wheels, and for good reason. This week, Craig has a great DIY post on changing your own oil. Not only is it informative for the budding back yard mechanic, but it’s always fun comparing terms with those who speak the same language in different countries.

How does Boris fit all of that inside a helmet?
Courtesy of the Ford Media folks, we have this interview of four of the Ford drivers leading up to tonight’s Bud Shootout. My personal take on the season is that somewhere along the line Boris’ skill and professionalism is going to shine and the good old boys are going to start giving way to Sasquatch!
There will be four Ford teams competing in Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout. David Gilliland, Boris Said, Ken Schrader and Greg Biffle all spoke about the start to the 2007 season during yesterday’s NASCAR media day.
GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 Ameriquest Ford Fusion — DOES THE BUD SHOOTOUT MEAN MORE TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM SINCE EVERYTHING IS PRETTY MUCH NEW? HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU GUYS? “I think it’s really important for us. We have a pretty decent race car, but not our best race car for the Bud Shootout. We wish it was our best race car, but we’re saving what we feel is our best car for the 500, but I think we’re definitely gonna see how the track handles with this tire that we’re gonna be on. I’m not saying it’s a lot different, but year-to-year we’ll see how this tire acts and get a pit stop and get a little bit of a run on it, see how far we can go on fuel even though it will be different engines, different carburetor, we’ll still get a basic idea. So this is important for us.”

Remember the first Dakota? It was one of the first mid size pickups, maybe even the first. Much larger than the little offerings from Japan, but much smaller than the full size trucks of it’s domestic cousins. It was a great truck for the small contractor who wasn’t carrying a huge load or towing much more than a utility trailer. The new 2008 Dakota has been revealed and it certainly exceeds anything those old trucks could do. It even beats most of the basic half tons from the eighties too. This thing has a tow rating of a whopping 7,050 pounds, all the while carrying the whole family in four door comfort. It looks great too.
