Mitsubishi in other parts of the world, Mitsubishi has built a reputation for building some pretty tough vehicles that withstand some off road abuse as well as regular paved roads. Imagine a mini van that you can take off roading. Well, Mitsubishi has the answer for the JDM consumer: the Delica D:5. A super strong minivan that is capable on and off road. Do it yourself diagnostics coming to a store near you

January 31, 2007 by Gary Grant 1 Comment

The check engine light. The bane of motorists, mechanics and DIY’ers all over. While the technology is great in theory, in practice it sometimes becomes more of a pain in the hoop. The folks at Smart Auto Management have created SAM to help you out. SAM is a consumer friendly on board diagnostics kiosk that helps drivers get a handle on what ails their ride.

The concept is: Drive up, insert credit card for a whopping $15 charge, hook a cable up under the dash and then take the printout which tells you what is wrong with the car based on the fault codes that have been stored.

Old man wipes out bus shelter

January 31, 2007 by Gary Grant 2 Comments

oldladyd.jpg

How often have we seen headlines like the one above? Too often. How many times have you been trapped behind an oldster doing 25 in a 40 zone and you can’t get past. I’d be willing to bet that some obscenity crossed your lips along with something along the lines of get off the road you old coot. That old coot is somebody’s grandma or grandpa. They’ve probably never had an accident, or maybe they have, but either way they are a bit of a menace.

January 30, 2007 by Gary Grant 1 Comment

Ah the Nurburgring, home of Hans and Sabine those masterful Ring leaders. Watch as wannabe ringmeisters flog their beetles, beemers, Simcas and god knows what else, with no safety equipment. Watch for the freak who gets tossed from his beetle who no doubt kept right on lapping.

Nissan releases Pino Minicar

January 29, 2007 by Gary Grant 3 Comments

pino.jpg

Buying habits and driving needs in North America are much different from those in Japan, the birthplace of the microcar. With today’s gas prices and commuting needs, the micro car makes a bunch of sense here in the Toronto area so we’d love to see this new micro from Nissan.

Built for Nissan by Suzuki, the Pino is an incredible little machine. A 3 cylinder engine is mated to your choice of 3 speed auto or 5 speed manual transmission, and 2 or 4 wheel drive. Absolutely incredible gas mileage. I’ve never seen it measured in km per liter before, but if my grade 11 math is right it works out to a whopping 84 miles per gallon. If that’s true, why the hell are Smart cars all over our roads and none of these? Add in the 4wd, lose a bit of mileage and gain the traction we need here in Southern Ontario.

Gone in 60 Seconds: Portugal Style

alfa-in-a-box.jpg

The only thing missing from this story is the real life Nick Cage. A warehouse sites unattended for a decade and a half, until someone decides to see what’s inside. Only one problem, the place is welded shut. No sweat, cut it open and let’s see what’s hiding in there.

It’s an entire fleet of classic and race cars, crusted with the fine sheen of bird droppings. No one has stepped forward to claim the cars, as if that’s any real surprise. These guys are probably rotting in a prison somewhere for some other misdemeanor.

How crazy is a day in Paul Tray’s life when he’s at the track? One would assume that it’s action packed to say the least. MTV Canada had some cameras follow PT around for a bit to put together the Diary of Paul Tracy. The show is set to air tomorrow night on MTV and includes some footage of the whacked out Canadian driver tormenting the French Canadian drivers and public.
