Video: Crazy tunnel blast in a Skyline

Those crazy Japanese engineers have been building monster Skyline GT-R’s for years. 1200 horsepower seems to be a fairly common number. Watch these guys turn a 0-200 mph run, inside a tunnel of all places. Perhaps most noteworthy is the lack of helmets, in a car that accelerates so fast it looks almost uncontrollable. Just plain old nuts!

Thanks to Autoblog for the tip on this one

Speed Shifting

Life in the real world version of The Garage have been crazier than ever, preventing some regular posting here in The Garage. Not only have we been hard at work launching some new blogs for BVM, but the dealership I work at is closing down. What does this mean for me? Well, it’s been a bit of a scramble to figure out where I’m going to hang my hat for the next phase in automotive life. Not to worry though, things are in the works. My feed reader has over a thousand new items, just for the car stuff so I think it’s time to Speed Shift.

The Great Diesel Marathon Reaches the Finish

109369606c5005_0921__mid.jpg

The long distance rally gods must have been consulting each other leading up to last week, as there were 3 major events. La Carrera Panamerica, the Ferrari Panamerican 20,000 and the Greatest Diesel Marathon of All Time. While not a race in normal terms, the Marathon was still a distance competition of grand proportions.

Competitors left Paris in no less than 36 Mercedes Benz E320 Diesels, with the goal of being the team to acheive the best fuel mileage over some 14,000 km. Team E-Bay won, with an overall consumption of 7.19 L/100 km.

Perhaps even cooler, was the human consumption: In addition to breakfast and dinners, between Paris and Beijing they consumed about 8,200 lunch sandwiches, 5,300 bananas, 4,000 chocolate bars and 9,600 bottles of mineral water.

The Garage Welcomes Bomberino

635546_34665040.jpg

Earlier this Fall, The Garage reported on Katherine Legge becoming a Road Warrior in Pink on behalf of the Susan G Komen Foundation to generate awareness for Breast Cancer Research.

Over at Blair Valley Media’s newest blog Bomberino, Sandy has written about the volleyball world’s efforts. Dig For The Cure is a grassroots movement to raise money for the Komen Foundation. It’s a great idea, as we’ve all been touched by breast cancer, and most of us played volleyball in Junior High.

A great post about a great cause. Welcome to BVM Sandy!

Ferrari Panamerican 20,000 reaches the finish line

ferrarip-6.JPG

After 85 days and 20,000 miles, the Ferrari Panamerican team have cruised across the finish line in New York City yesterday afternoon. Fueled by Shell V-Power premium gas, the two 620 horsepower Ferrari 599 GTB Fioranos crossed 16 countries, on some pretty nasty roads. This must have been an incredible journey.

Mazda to reveal new design concept in LA

1115.jpg

Mazda has just released a teaser of a new concept design called the Nagare. Not much has been said about the actual vehicle, rather they are talking about the design. Apparently this new concept draws from the word flow and should be an indication of the direction Mazda is taking for the future.
