For years now, Gearheads have hooked up with Propellorheads to make cars float. Not many have been very successful. The Amphicar was arguably the most usable one, as it actually made it to production and many are still plying the waters of cottage country around the world. Now, an unsuspecting Fiat Panda has been converted to a pontoon party boat. While this thing is less than attractive, it certainly seems work.

I’ve always thought that case mods were for gamer geeks, but this case mod may just be perfect for us car geeks. Micke Gustafsson first tried to integrate the idea into a tradional case, but wasn’t happy with the results. He ended up going high tech with micro components and a real alloy wheel.

Those crafty marketing guys over the big pond at Opel have hooked up with Disney and Pixar to create animated versions of real life Opel models, just like the stars of Cars the Movie. They’ve even created a micro site similar to the Cars site, with screen savers, wallpapers and a colouring book for the kids.

July 21st, 2006 — Tags:ford-f-250, hidden-secret, paris-hilton, powerstroke, psycho, trucks

Auto photog Chris Doane was just out doing his job, taking pics of new models. His target? 2008 Ford F-250 Superduty Powerstroke. Not exactly a well hidden secret, as these pics of these trucks have been all over the net. It’s not like he was in the bushes waiting for Paris Hilton to show this.
So what happened? The psycho snapped and chased Chris all over town, while trying to run him off the road and at one point blocking an intersection in an attempt to stop him. Read Chris’s full account over at Autospies and be sure to follow the link for the full story. I’m sure that this putz is in some deep doo doo today.

Here’s a new ride for the Trailer Park Boys, possibly the nastiest AMX ever sold. The description my be the funniest thing I’ve read in weeks.
The car is even equipped with:
NOS=Nasty Old Shiit! My dogs somehow got into this car again.
Bid on this gem here, thanks to Jalopnik for brightening my day.

A group of automotive designers from Coventry University have spent the last 18 months creating a complete automotive vision. Their program not only involves development of a new, environmentally friendly sports car, but also the ground up creation of a car company.
Taking their inspiration from the legendary Cooper Climax Formula 1 car from the late sixties, Continue reading →
July 20th, 2006 — Tags:army-truck, backup-generator, dirtbike, ex-army, motorhome, solar-panels

Leave it to the Aussies to create this larger than life “motorhome”. Based on an ACCO ex-army truck, this 6×6 off road capable monster was built by photographer Rob Gray and his wife to travel the outback. Completely self sufficient, there is stoarge for 3 months worth of supplies, though only enough water for 1 month. Electric power is supplied through a 3,300 watt power invertor and solar panels, with a backup generator for extended rainy days. There is even a garage that holds a dirtbike.
Look like it might fit your lifestyle? It’s for sale for only $250,000 US and that may include delivery within Australia.

Over in Europe, it sounds like VW had a contest with readers of AutoBild to choose the name for a new Golf SUV. The winner is Tiguan. I don’t get it.
The Tiguan is set to debut at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show.

The motoring world has been waiting for months to see it and yet the first spy shots didn’t appear until a couple of days ago. An electric car that is a real sports car. Tesla Motors has been hard at work and the finished product shows it. Not only is the car drop dead gorgeous, but it is also quick. 0-60 comes up in only 4 seconds, with a top speed of 130 mph. Being electric, the car is apparently completely silent. Maybe even best of all, the batteries will be good for 250 miles between charges which isn’t all that different from a tank of gas. That gives the Tesla Roadster some real world usability.
