Some of our sharp eyed readers may recognize these two guys. Both of them are Canadian and both went on to race in Formula 1. Of course one went much farther than the other and became a household name to this day.
CMHSG member Mike Adams came by this set from Gimli, Manitoba that was shot by photographer and racer Henri Marcoux. The photos were scanned by Henri’s family who have given permission for them to be shared.
The year is 1976 and the series is the Players Challenge Formula Atlantic. In the foreground above is the now legendary Gilles Villeneuve and driving the STP car is Torontonian Bill Brack. I believe Brack still owns this car.
I kept looking for our man Allan De La Plante & his camera in the background somewhere, but can’t find him!
If any of our readers knows the identity of any other people in the photos, let us know in the comments section so we can help Adams archive the info.

Great pictures! I was only 11 when that Villeneuve guy was winning and I was a Bill Brack Fan….but very quickly I became a Villeneuve fan. A true star!
Now this brings back some great memories. Brother Doug and the whole season of racing was amazing. O11race18sm that’s a great picture of Gilles, Bill and myself with the battery booster just in case the car didn’t start!
Nice hair, shoes and sideburns lord those were the days fun fun fun but work work and more work. Gave true meaning to work hard and play extra hard – LOL.
Cheers
The bearded Lola driver is Tom Klausler, and that’s George Chapman (Canadian Driving Champ in 1966 in a Lotus 23) holding the mic in image #10. I was head of timimg and scoring at Gimli during most of the 70’s. While Gilles victory celebrations were going on, I was keeping son Jacques amused with an ice cream cone! Wish I had a picture of that, along with the many other pictures from those years that I don’t have and never had.
Thanks for the extra details Jim.
